May 31, 2022 by Ambreen Zahra

Kansas is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state lined by Nebraska toward the north; Missouri toward the east; Oklahoma toward the south; and Colorado toward the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River, which thus was named after the Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. The clan’s name is frequently said to mean “individuals of the (south) wind” although this was probably not the term’s original meaning. For thousands of years, what is currently Kansas was home to various different Native American clans. Clans in the eastern part of the state generally lived in villages along the stream valleys. Clans in the western part of the state were semi-nomadic and pursued large crowds of bison.
